PO2 Robert Cadle - Please allow me to add my Dad to this too. He was too young for WWI and too old for WWII but he was a self taught electrical engineer helping setup two radio stations, one in Savannah GA and one in Jacksonville, FL plus he designed and built Hydroplane and Runabout Racing boats both outboard and inboard then designed a machine to balance the rotating parts of NASCAR Racing engines back in the late 1950's until 1963 after I got home from the Army. I was out June 24, 1963 and he died Sept. 1963. Still miss him and have dreams of when he was alive.

I was drafted in 1970, but served from 1972-1974. Then in 1980 after moving back to Germany, my wife’s boss in Germany convinced me to consider the active Army Reserve [USAR] !

A friend. I had been kicked, expelled not suspended, from high school for making bombs and bomb parts in shop classes. I detonated on the football field after school. I hid in or under a heavy trash can just in case.
I read books on pressure in atmosphere etc.
well, long story short, a good friend was in the military, heard about this and contacted the school and the court, recruiter. I was 17.
He helped me to get in.
I was a good student and had been in the MGM program since 4th grade when I was tested.

From the days as British colonies had two relatives in the French and Indian Wars. Later on April 19th 1775 had three members of My family march with the Minutemen from Sudbury, Massachusetts to Concord to battle the British at old North Bridge. Family members fought in the Spanish American War, WWI, WWII, Korea and Me in Vietnam. I can't find any however that fought in the US civil War that I know of anyway. My Father was a WWII Navy Veteran as was My Mothers Aunt who spent 30 years on active duty in the US Navy and served during WWII, Korea and Vietnam and Her brother was a Sergeant in the US Army, Korea. My Mother and I were with My Dad in the early 1950s as Military Dependents when He was stationed at Pearl Harbor Navel Station in Hawaii. The fact I was als a Cadet in Civil Air Patrol and also at another point a Cadet at Bordentown Military Institute, Bordentown, NJ also had a major influence on Me serving in the US Armed Forces. (My Dad and Brother also were in CAP)
