Much has been said about us bugging out, and many picture Families hunkered down, but is that the case? Deep cover folks not essential to the mission either left long ago, or were ordered to remain for future intel. That leaves contractors and businessmen. It's not a tourist destination, so rule that out. The contractors are often given priority lift organically via corporate jets, so what type of business are the rest engaged in? Many are making major coin from the opium trade, and likely see neither need or wisdom in presenting themselves at HKIA. Time will tell, but this is just food for thought. The forces may have to fight their way out, and American blood has been spilled. No more bloodshed for anyone that chooses not to leave, regardless of nationality or reasoning. IMO.

I'm not convinced that everyone there knew how critical this would become and how fast it would happen. And since we're well acquainted with out our government operates, I could totally buy a story in which they were told that there would be time and resources only to find that wasn't the case at all.

MAJ (Join to see) - I meant more in terms of travelers in general. Example: There is a college class that took a trip abroad in Afghanistan, and is now stranded. How on earth that made it past the planning stage to implementation is beyond me...At this point it feels like anyone who traveled to Afghanistan on their own is complicit in their own misfortune.

SFC Michael Hasbun That makes sense. The only explanation I could think of for that is the fact that they are college kids. By their very nature they tend have a very Pollyanna view of the world. Who knows? Thats just my best guess.

MAJ (Join to see) - Apparently, many of those students were originally Afghans who were simply going back to visit families for what may be the last time (media likes to leave those bits out). Not saying it was a good idea to go back, but explains a little bit more why the risks were ignored.
Now, the major problem is however a former Afghan sporting a US passport, and a Taliban member getting a hold of them and getting doubly pissed off.

as a MARINE that served in Beirut in 1983, and watched my Brothers Murdered in a terrorist attack ( by the way the same MEU and Battalion that was hit then), how can we continue to support and follow politicians that seem to be so careless and callous with the lives of our Brother and Sister service members and American Citizens ?

We can’t trust them or what we’re told when it comes from this WH. What most don’t know is that we’ve had the ability to stop this madness at anytime the WH wanted. The truth is this is what they wanted. Afghanistan never had a chance once Biden took office. By his deeds he destroyed everything that had been sacrificed.

from what I understand from what my buddies involved have said, it was basically "drop what you are doing and leave" for the pullout.
Anyone not involved in direct military operations was left in the dark, including our allies.

You are talking about all the equipment provisioned for the Afghan national army during our last 20 years of "nation building"? Yes, I am aware. The same thing happened in Vietnam.
Given that we have been pumping trillions of dollars into Afghanistan over the past 20 years, I don't think you can put the fault of the entire government collapsing in a matter of days squarely on the Biden administration. And what would have been the better path? To keep pumping time and money in for another 20 years in the hopes we might be able to get a least a couple of weeks out of them before they collapsed?
