I have a hard BLC slot set for Jan, not that that would matter in this case. But does the new temporary promotion policy apply to me, meaning I would promote in February? I have read the MILPER (still confused) and am hearing mixed yes's and no's from folks. Thanks in advance!

I’d be sure to check with your chain of command, chain of concern leaders to confirm the truth on this to be 100% sure!

Are you currently filling a 5 slot now? If not, you will most likely not see a promotion until you are filling the slot and doing the job. If you are filling the slot then you should be promoted as soon as you complete BLC and have meet all requirements of TIS/TIG.

Doesn't matter about filling a slot or not. All enlisted Soldiers, The Army will select RA and USAR Soldiers Sergeant through SGM based off of their OML or their promotions points to the next rank without the PME. This is effective January 2022. Soldiers then have 12 months to complete their PME in order to keep their rank. In your case you should be promoted Feb or the next month pending anything else that might prevent you from it. Since you already have a BLC date, you'll be good all together.

MSG (Join to see) - That is good to know, appreciate the education on that. Not sure I understand the logic, but that is not for me to understand anyway! LOL What is an NCO going to do if they are not leading anyone? Seems silly to promote just because they are at TIG/TIS, promotion points... if there isn't a need, why promote? However, on the other side of that I love seeing people getting promoted and moving up, so I guess it is a overall win for the Soldier and the Army!

SSG (Join to see) just because a NCO isn’t leading Soldier’s doesn’t mean anything I’m a SFC sitting in a MSG with zero Soldier’s underneath me currently because they don’t send any junior Soldier’s to this Diplomatic Attaché Position! They promote because there is a need obviously otherwise they wouldn’t! They are promoting faster without they school wait now is all and giving you a chance to go afterwards instead of making you wait go to the school then promote! Big difference in months of wearing the rank in that case which makes you eligible for the next board and rank all that much sooner which is what they are looking for now that the SGM/CSM commitment is 6 years instead of the old 3 years! Just a little knowledge drop for you! Lots of Senior Level job positions you won’t have any Soldier’s underneath you possibly doesn’t mean anything other than less stress and you have to do all the work yourself!
