If you are talking about processing time it is generally a few months if everything is in order. You will need to call the VA or contact the VSO if you used one.

A few months is typical to recently discharged veterans. I left the Army over 44 years ago and the average first time approval is around 30%. I used the American Legion as my VSO.

Processing time is generally the same regardless of discharge date. Documentation or lack there of could be the issue.

If you have an active claim it is easy to log into the ebenefits website and check the status. It will tell you if it is pending, approved, denied or anythign else. I would check that and followup with your VSO for an update.

I filed my claim in 2015,it finally got thru the final appeal in 2018.
It was probably another 2 or 3 months afterwards before I got paid.
It takes a while, you'll get denied several times and just have to play the game.

Been there and done that. Average wait time to get someone on the phone is 30 minutes and they supply no more information than what is already available to me on line. What seems to happen is when your application is moved to the appeal status, it has moved to a deep dark hole.

SGT Carl Baltes - Did you use one of the National Veterans Organizations to help you file?

Yes, the American Legion. They were helpful but only on the documents to send, unfortunately once you submit the appeal, no one can contact for further information. You also cannot submit anymore evidence which is absolutely ridiculous when they make you wait this long.
