This is rather difficult to type...I didn't think it would be an issue. My Army career has come to an end, I am no longer an active duty Soldier...I am a Veteran. Strange, I thought that I would be happy considering how bad my last couple duty station leadership have been. I don't miss those bast*rds, but I already miss parts of being a Soldier. I loved being a Soldier, I loved being the one everyone would come to when they needed a question answered. I didn't know everything, but I could hold my own when it came to most things. I read regulations...a lot. In my experience, I have found that even if you are right (backed by regulations), commanders still can do whatever they want, because they are protected. IG is a freaking joke. Going above them doesn't do anything except make the target on your back even bigger. Oh well, I digress.

11 June was my last day on active duty and I am now left with questions. What do I do now? I have a plan, but I am honestly scared to death to do anything. It is like I had a purpose and now I don't. It is overwhelming actually. This really isn't why I posted this, so I will get to the point (finally). How do I change my profile from active duty to Veteran?

Go to your profile page and click on the green "SM" box after your name and it should take you to the page where you can update your status.

Sorry to hear about your having to get out!

PO1 John Miller, I can't click on the green 'SM' button to the right of my name. Should I contact an Admin?

SPC(P) Jay Heenan, I'm sorry you weren't able to serve as long as you'd hoped. I don't know what to say, except to remind you that you DO still have a purpose.

Here's a thread that contains some words of wisdom from others who have gone through what you're experiencing. https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/medically-retired-against-your-wishes

Thanks SGT (Join to see). You know the kicker? I wasn't even medically retired because of how my PCM did the paperwork. They didn't even have me down for 'combat related' because I didn't whine about my knees (they were already jacked up, deployment made them worse) on my PDHRA when I got back. PEB review said nope, there wasn't enough documentation.

SPC Jay Heenan, I would hazard a tragic story lurks behind your post. I am sorry. The military is a harsh taskmaster, a few are fortunate to survive and serve. Others are discarded by the wayside.

Please; Take several deep breaths, explore a new plan, strive, work at being a strong swimmer!, become a survivor!
