Army Plans To Replace M9 In 2018: What are your thoughts on the XM-17 MHS?

The Army announced this week that it has approved it's concept design of it's new XM-17 Modular Handgun System and is now ready to begin the contract-bidding process. The Army says the plan is to begin replacing the M9 with the XM-17 in FY 18. Unlike the M9 and it's predecessor the 1911, the XM-17's modular platform will enable the weapon to be tailored to the preference of individual shooters or to meet unique mission-critical needs.

I have never shot a .40 either. I think they are a mix of .40s and .45s. I wonder how much of a difference .05 makes? They talk about the large recoil when moving up from a 9mm. When I first shot my Glock 21, I didn't notice a difference from the M9 (have I mentioned I hate the M9). I was waiting for the big recoil like the 1911 but it never happened and I just laughed while I was shooting.

Ok, #1, a .40 is much snappier recoil then a 9mm, but the Army is talking about using hollow-points, so 9mm would be just fine.
#2, the FBI went back to 9mm because science.
#3. .40S&W and 10MM are VASTLY different, only thing that is the same is the diameter of the bullet (and sometimes bullet weight).

It is time for a better weapon and the time is now to get it done before the next major conflict. I'd like to see the procurement of a weapon similar to the Kimber Warrior SOC (1911).

I do not know enough about the XM-17 Modular Handgun System to really make a truly informed statement BUT there appears to be a lot of moving pieces for a general issue weapon? I think we keep trying to get fancy with hand guns and forget they are going to be carried as a backup or a weapon of last resort.
Also, when it comes to knock down power for any weapon, but especially handguns, it is more a matter of the ammo than the weapon itself.

For general issue, it will probably be permanently configured at depot level. Likely only SoF will be allowed to freely modify it.
MAJ (Join to see), most medics carry either an M16 or M4. Typically the only medical types who carry pistols are your providers and senior officers. Even in a CSH, most of the junior nurses (CPT and below) carried M16s.

MAJ (Join to see) - Sir night sight for MP would be awesome! take a lot out of the trouble sight at night! me pros or tritium would be awesome. The reason i like mepro's they have the 2 got green and orange front. like to see the 435 comeback. Springfield has the xdm in 45 nice weapon!
