Hello everyone, I am currently in the process of becoming an army chaplain candidate. To those who are in the same process, what has your experience been like from the time you contacted a chaplain recruiter till now? Chaplains, please feel free to chip in as well about your experience. Thank you in advance!

2LT (Join to see) First off, congratulations! As far as the process, I had trouble in the beginning until I finally found the specialty branch recruiter; so hopefully the major part of your battle is over, a good recruiter makes a huge difference. If you have your undergrad done and are currently accepted to an MDiv program, the next step, other than physical through MEPS or DODMERBS, will be the application process. The FEDREC board usually meets every other month, I think, and the State National Guard board meets once a month, again, I think. As long as your packet looks good when it gets sent up to DC you should be good. After I got past the FEDREC board everything went really fast. I graduated with my BGS in May and commissioned in July. Can you tell me what all you have ready in your packet at this point? Also, are you going National Guard or Reserves? I ask because my experience was through the National Guard.

I am a retired Chaplain with prior enlisted service. First, I suggest you find a seasoned NCO to discuss what it takes to be a good Army Chaplain. Then measure yourself up to what he says. I am an old geezer, so not so techie techie, but if you can fine me on facebook, I will be glad to talk to you directly. Or if there is some way here to share connect info. I am retired living the retired dream in SW Florida.

The most highly thought of 2LT were the one's who were the quietest. The one's who found a SFC to learn from.
