There was a number of military men who got busted on To Catch a Predator. How was following week's Friday COB briefing?

I don't know if the guy I worked with was caught by Chris Hanson, but when I was at 1st Group in Okinawa, we had no less than three people go down.

One was an older, SFC, super smart commo guy. Apparently he was running a server on the dark net. People showed up and took him away in handcuffs and he was never heard from again.

The second, a very senior SF Team Sergeant with about 25 years in, was court martialed, reduced to E1 and received a bad conduct discharge in lieu of prison time. He was texting another service members 12 year old daughter inappropriately.

The third one was a brand new MI guy who was just weird to begin with. The Air Force Investigators set up a sting house on the base. Apparently there are enough predators running around Kadena that he wasn't the only one caught.

Since you were assigned to 1st Group, I'm curious to know what your duty position was. Are you a Ranger or Green Beret?

SPC July Macias there are no Ranger positions in an SF group. I am a Ranger but I was a Career Counselor at the time.

You never saw Dateline's "To Catch a Predator?" Really?

Him being arrested for bounced checks isn't something I'd be too concerned about.

I’d love for CSM Hayden to view the episode with the Air Force E5 crying and sweating profusely. SFC (Join to see)

I mean - they mostly just get caught on their own. There are a LOT of chimos in the Army sadly. I went through Army Times when they used to publish UCMJ results like in 2015, 2016 and counted up only sex crimes to use in a SHARP brief. The majority of those convicted, it was for sex crimes against children. Sexual abuse, sexual assault or possessing child rape images. Mostly junior enlisted but some senior enlisted and officers were in there.

A safety brief when someone gets caught sexually abusing anyone, kids or adults, is going to be the same it always is. There's probably going to be a sudden mandatory SHARP briefing too.

This is the most random question I think I've seen on here...where did you see "there was a number of military men busted on Chris Hansen's To Catch a Predator?" I can't find any sort of article about it. Was it before it was cancelled in 2008 or when it restarted in 2016?

I binged several episodes of To Catch a Predator over the weekend on Youtube. And noticed there was a Air Force E5, an Army SSG, a LT, an E2 Sailor, and even a recently retired Marine LTC that got busted. I personally have never known a chomo, and never fully understood why we had so many SHARP briefings.

SPC July Macias - You seriously don't know why we have so much to do with SHARP? So you just don't follow current events at all even since you've been in? Not even just 2 years ago with the Vanessa Guillen murder?

The military has a LOT of sexual assaults happening. We will probably never know the true scope since most people don't report for multiple reasons. But there is a report done every year for the last 14 years at least about sexual assault and sexual harassment/violence in the military. That's why SHARP exists - it didn't when I came in. When I came in, sexual assault/harassment fell under EO. It was part of "Consideration of Others" training.

Every branch of the military has a problem with sexual assault and has yet to come up with a way to try to deter it. For a long time, it got ignored and commanders would shove it under the rug.

You probably have known or met a child molester, they just haven't ever gotten caught. I didn't even think that show was still on honestly. It was cancelled in 2008 after a ADA was caught talking to someone he thought was a 13 year old. Like...he shot himself as the cops came in with the camera crew...in 2016 was some recurring segment on Crime Watch Daily called Hansen vs Predator.

However there are a lot of groups out there who do similar to what he did. They pose as kids 12, 13, 14 and then get the person to meet up with them and then confront them in person wherever they meet.

But yes there are a lot of sexual predators in the military or who are veterans. Being in the military doesn't mean someone is a good person - and I'd guarantee these kind of people got away with it a lot more in the military then they did outside.

I was a SARC so I've dealt with that aspect of SHARP and then as a security manager I see derog reports and sometimes it's sexual assault of minors or possessing child rape images, etc.

I'm not currently serving. I enlisted into active duty 20 years ago. Then did a short stint with the Army Reserves. The guys I knew who got arrested were for drug or theft related charges. We had rape prevention classes and briefings, but I just assumed it was because a service member was sexually assaulted somewhere in Fort Wherever. The only serious bust I was aware of was this SSG in our company who was stealing government property and doing coke.
