MEPS will do a grade determination when you enlist in AD and tell you what grade you'll be at.

When I Did The Switch Back In 97 , I Had Been A Sgt For About A Year And They Dropped Me Back To Spc However They Did Make My Date Of Rank When I Got Promoted To Spc Which Gave Me The Tis And Tig To Make Sgt as Soon As I Made Points And Got Boarded , Don’t Know About Now But Be Prepared To Take A Drop To Spc
