My wife and I have been thinking of what we want to do next after I finish shore duty and we both want to take a break from Sunny San Diego so her and the kids can tenement travel. I was thinking today about possibly a Pre-Com but to get people opinion first

Haven't ever really heard anyone say anything good about a PCU. Schools are the only good thing i can think of.

That's what I thought to but FC1 Maloney said it was actually one of his better commands

Had orders to a PCU and thankfully my Detailer screwed up and filled them with someone else. I got to witness the PCU as it entered the fleet and parked across the pier from us. Saw it on ops, deployments and several firing exercises. I am glad my Detailer was messed up that day! Go on FB and read some of the ships pages to see what the crew says about their ship, you do not have to stick to San Diego, other opportunities without going around the beltway are Washington (definitely not sunny), Florida Sunny and Humid, there are plenty

It's slot of work, great schools, a chance to get acquainted with any upgrades to the equipment. Shakedown cruises keep you busy. Great to be a plank owner.

Precom's can be a good thing, in terms of schooling. Once sea trials start it gets busy and frustrating. There are literally 1000's of kinks that need worked out after commissioning. Experienced these first hand as I commissioned the USS Howard in 2001.
