Will I be promoted after I go to the board and make cutoff with the code 9G on my ERB?

Good morning all. I am currently deployed to Afghanistan and I have a Soldier who currently has a 9G code (bar to re-enlist). He is a CPL. Early on in his career, he did some dumb stuff and was demoted from SGT to PFC. He has since been promoted to CPL and is on his 3rd deployment. He has grown up and matured but he is concerned if the 9G code will bar him from joining the National Guard or Army Reserves. Can anyone shed some light on this? Even though the Soldier can no longer re-enlist on Active Duty, can he join the National Guard or Army Reserves? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

A 9G code is not a bar to reenlist. 9G is RCP for current grade. A bar to reenlist is a code of 9K.

your post ticks me off because it make me believe you are not getting the proper counseling and mentorship. I understand I do not know your entire situation however, it really makes me want to know what your event oriented (retention & promotion counseling) look like?
You, your Squad Leader/Platoon Sergeant needs to discuss your situation with the retention NCO. RCP for SPC is 8 years time in service regardless if you are promotable or not. Your retention and promotion counseling covers these things and helps you make an informed decision which concerns you AND your family.

CSM Uhlig,<div><br>Because I am a big proponent of personal responsibility, I look at this situation as a 'shared responsibility'...teetering more towards the Soldier.<br><br></div><div>These situations occur much too often...and 9 times out of 10, the Soldiers WAS counseled by the servicing Career Counselor (usually not the Retention NCO) and is seeking 'second opinions' through other means (RallyPoint, in this case).<br><br>Operating a retention site, I receive about 20 daily emails 'verifying' information that was received by leaders and Career Counselors...these Soldiers know; especially a Soldier that's been in for 8 years.</div>

when leaders conduct event oriented counseling, and specifically let their Soldiers know where they stand (in this case retention & promotion counseling), the give the answers to the Soldiers within their charge.

Understood...I would be willing to bet (ethically, of course), that SPC McBride has been counseled and knows this information...just looking for a second opinion or a way to get around the current policy.

I didn't know this information actually. And I was told by the career counselor that I have till January 2015 to be promoted. But I will return to verify

I did but I'm not sure if they have the correct info. I've talked to multiple career counselors and have gotten mixed responses.
