I have active duty friends who have a hard time being hours from the nearest base and not having a local community of spouses who understand their day-to-day life. I also see friends who have lived in “on post housing” going somewhere for a B-Billet and having a hard time adjusting to living outside a base community.<br>What is your take?</span></font>

Hinesville is horrible, within 20 minutes of me arriving there I had a crackhead trying to get a ride. I try not to go off post except for hunting and fishing, which is great on Stewart if your into that.

If the world were related to a human body, Hinesville, GA would be the a$$hole.

I lived 4 yrs in Hinesville and did most of my free time in Savannah since there was more to do there. I enjoyed Colorado Springs too when I was there earlier in my career. Hinesville just has grown enough to make anyone want to stay and truly say the place is great. It was sufficient for some things but again, nothing compare to Savannah. Columbus, GA is a big step up from being in Hinesville.

Lawton, OK, hands down, is the worst place ever. EVER. (It is close to OKC, which is its only redeemable quality.)

Columbia, SC is pretty nice since it's a state capital and a college town.

El Paso is ugly as sin, but has every amenity you could really need.

Columbus, GA is ok. Cute downtown.

Fort Lewis is awesome. The NW is an amazing part of the country, and it's close-ish to Seattle which is my favorite city in the US.

Since they have moved the tankers out of Knox, this place has died off

I was at Knox for a week this past summer. It's in the middle of nowhere, and has a "The Hills Have Eyes" quality to it. I agree, not nice.

I did not mind Knox, quiet community, only an hour from Louisville, less than 2 hours from Nashville if you wanted to party as they say. But since they took the tankers away it is a really quiet post, not much happening, but most of the housing was better than Ft. Jackson.

I've seen pictures of what Knox looks like now, it is nothing like when I was there in 1999-2000
