I am both professionally and personally disgusted, disappointed and just pissed off when I saw this video. It took a lot of courage to face the crowd here but in my mind, I think the Veteran did the right thing. What do you think?

--
Tense video captures the moment a Vietnam veteran confronts Ferguson protesters who are stomping on the American flag.

Indianapolis-based reporter Patrick Calvert tweeted the intense video out on Monday.

“I fought for this flag,” the man tells a small group of demonstrators. “What’s he doing to my f***ing flag?”

“We’re doing this to your f***ing flag," a protester says as he grinds his feet into the stars and stripes.

“What does my flag have to do with this?” the man demands.

“It’s about what your flag represents that’s doing to us,” a protester responds.

Sir, I'm with you CSM Michael J. Uhlig! Makes me sick! I would have done the same - tried my best to keep it non-violent, but at the same time stand up for what I believe in - and I do believe in the flag and what it REALLY represents and that it flies with the breath of every person who ever swore to defend it!

He did the right thing, he stood up for the flag without any physical confrontation. I see nothing wrong with that.

I do not feel that he did anything wrong....for him. For me, I would have to do a quick risk assessment.... 'The Mob' is a fickle creature, secure in its numbers and because of the numbers secure in remaining unknown as an individual. Many times, once specific people have been identified, they are no longer secure in the mob mentality and will back off... In this situation, the risk for bodily harm is great, and probably more then I would be willing to take. Live to fight another day. In addition to that, part of what I have been fighting for and defending has been the RIGHTS that he/she is currently engaged in. I have the right to freedom of speech/protest, but they do also, as shown in courts of law. I would walk away, sad, but able to come to battle another day as needed.

Yes sir, i keep telling them that. If not for us they would be speaking Japanese or German. We came damn close to losing on both fronts but, GOD protects America. I agree that this was a dangerous situation and wonder if this is the mentality that authority has to deal with. PS. I could not get the video to come up.

With all due respect, soldiers protect America, not a being that has not been proven to exist.

MSgt Marvin Kinderknecht - Master Sergeant; When you say "We came damn close to losing on both fronts ..." I have to disagree with you. The United States of America was never in any actual danger of "losing" in the Pacific - and the Japanese knew that right from the beginning.

What the Japanese were counting on was the American people not getting behind the war effort and then being able to negotiate a settlement with the government of the United States of America [a settlement which would probably have entailed the Japanese government paying compensation to the United States of America and, in turn, receiving title to some (many of the [?]) former French, Dutch, and British colonies in Southeast Asia.

Equally, America was never in any actual danger of "losing" in Europe. The signs were all there to show that Germany was an (essentially) spent force by the end of 1941 and if Herr Hitler hadn't been kind enough to declare war on the United States of America there is a high probability that Roosevelt could never have persuaded Congress to go along with declaring a "Two Front War".

Had Operation OVERLORD failed, the odds are very high that Germany would STILL have lost WWII. The only real question then would have been "How far into France are the Russians going to have to chase the German Army before the German Army runs out of beans, bullets, and bumwipe?".

Russia would not have had to worry about setting up "buffer states" that were right next to "free countries" because the English Channel would have acted as a very efficient barrier and the Dutch, Belgians, Danes, Finns, Norwegians, and Swedes were all quite pragmatic people.

True, there might have been a bit of conflict on the Franco-Spanish and Italian borders, but Generalissimo Franco was also quite pragmatic and neither the Italian nor the Spanish Army were in terribly good shape.

PS - "God" also protects fools and drunks, so don't get cocky.

I was talking about the a-bomb and other technological advances. True, we eventually had superior forces . I am not an historian and was only a kid at the time, but it was not a "walk in the cake". As far as name calling, I am above that.
