We all know that we have fun ribbing each other. When we retire, we all become a fellow Vet. I deal with my PTSD by surrounding myself with active and Vets alike. It helps me when we talk and share memories.

How many of you out there rely on other Vets?

I relied on vets when I needed help with my disability claims. Now other vets rely on me more...

The vet community here on RP gives me no end of amusement and stimulating discussions. Other than that I am pretty much a homebody and don't advertise I am a vet. Very few people unless they know me well have any idea I was in the Army let alone ever deployed.

Cpl Clinton Britt - I guess I am just weird. I wont join the VFW or other organizations. I don't dress up in my uniform on Memorial or Veterans Day. I don't wear those [Insert name of armed conflict here] hats. Don't get me wrong I am proud of my service but I was a different person back then and want to be judged for who I am now.

Sgt Dave Thomas, that is totally understandable. I know a few Vets that won't even mention it. And I respect that.

Cpl Clinton Britt - I was a VFW member for a while but that was a train wreck. I was the youngest one in there and was not made to feel welcomed at all. They wanted my money but not my presence. In the end they have neither.

The true answer is not enough. I struggle to want to connect with other Vets because most other Vets I have met are trying to build their life as normal as possible, and want to live that "civilian" lifestyle. I don't know what that means, so I just climb. If I happen to meet another Vet while climbing then that is awesome. I would prefer to engage with other Vets that are like minded, but the problem is they are hard to find.

SN Alex Tufail - that is one of the advantages of RallyPoint where you can have contact [even though it is remote] with other veterans and learn from each other - both good lessons which can benefit us as well as those we love and bad lessons to be avoided.

Exactly, that's why I'm trying to build a network on here.I think there are a lot of people I could connect with and learn from.
