A lot of additional duties besides maintenance. Avoid all things signal as a mechanic. Im speaking from the 10 years I spent as part of NETCOM as a mechanic. Signal is great for signal personnel. As a maintainer in a signal unit, everything will be more important than performing maintenance. No matter where you end up I'd expect you towing on HMMWV that's used for commo gear.

There are two types of people who leave Europe, those that love it and those that hate it. If you ask those that hate it what they did you won't hear about much. Ask those who love Europe what they did and the stories will never stop. Get out, explore and have fun. Ground equipment wasn't being utilized or maintained. Since I left signal I try to stick to combat arms units as a maintainer. It is way easier to get maintenance done in combat arms. It was by far the best assignment I had in my 20-year career. The fact is it’s the best kept secret in the Army. I was with the 3rd COSCOM and did time on staff for the Dep Cdr for Transportation, my 1st Sgt time in HHC, and then more staff. I did a consecutive overseas tour and then Desert Shield happened just before I was scheduled to rotate to the US. We were frozen in place. I ended up in Kuwait for Shield/Storm. Did a total of 7 1/2 years at WAB. 1SG Frank Boynton Tue, 17 Jul 2018 09:45:47 -0400 2018-07-17T09:45:47-04:00 Response by SPC Private RallyPoint Member made Jul 22 at 2018 4:53 PM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/anyone-have-any-insight-on-2nd-sb-in-wiesbaden-germany?n=3815889&urlhash=3815889

If it's anything like the signal battalion im assigned with here in the states, you're not gonna be a fan. Signal soldiers can't even tell the difference between coolant and Dextron VI. I lose brain cells every monday from the shit I've been asked. Plus, ordnance here is the red headed stepchild that the rest of the battalion seems to hate. On the brightside, your in Europe, have a blast with that you lucky bastard!
