And now I keep hearing it's almost impossible to switch, and so it's sad that I have to hope for another war to improve my chances. Has any guard officer been able to make this transition? Are any Army NG officers able to transition to Active Duty Army now? 2015-09-16T22:41:20-04:00 CPT(P) David Thorp 971274 <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I only joined Army NG OCS because AD wouldn't accept prior service. It was on a program called "call back to active duty". I don't know if they still have it available. I hate to tell you but I don't think that it's going to be easy. First you need to be at least a captain. Second your state needs to release you. This is something that most sates don't want to do. Due to all the money they invested in you. I would also recommend that you go to active duty captains career course. The other thing that would help would be that you were in a critical branch needed for AD. It's a very long process regardles. I wish you good luck. They are still conducting major cuts on AD. But yeah like the above posters said it is nearly impossible. I know only one person who was able to make the transition and it was from the reserves.
