The James A. Haley Veterans Hospital in Tampa, Florida, recently established "a multidisciplinary enviro-team — consisting of safety, infection control, environmental management and other services — that responds if a potential safety or environmental risk is reported," hospital spokeswoman Karen Collins said in an email to Military Times on Friday.

The Haley hospital had "dead rats falling from the kitchen ceiling" last month in addition to cockroaches found on patients' trays. Two months earlier, facilities management services "filled multiple buckets with roaches, dead rats and feces," the Tampa Bay Times reported.

Isn't Tampa getting a new VA Medical Center? In any event, I could see this happening in a lot of places.

Nice...I do not see a problem with a hospital having such a pest problem. If they cannot even control the pest they can see, what is happening with those they cannot see?

Karen Collins is full of scat! The VA regulations and JCAHO guidelines has requirements under Environment of Care Standards that has a team comprised of Chiefs, Engineering, Environmental Management Service, Logistics, Safety, Quality Assurance, Nursing at least under the leadership of the Associate Director and they perform Environmental Inspection rounds bi-weekly. They are required to inspect each area of the facility at least twice annually. So why did it fail at Tampa and Kansas? Did we all forget about the 20/20 or 60 Minutes program from the 80's which showed similar deplorable conditions? WTF???
