#2 is the biggest mistake I've seen in going through 100s of ex MIL resumes. "Performed maintenance on AN Whatever Mark Whatever" does not have a civilian translation and employers won't do it for you. #1 is a close second but I'd say it's more than grammar. Half the ex MIL resumes I've seen scream "I can't write!" So if you're still in, grab a technical writing course or English 101; anything to improve the writing skill.

Here is something to keep in mind if using USA Jobs, often times there is an area referred to KSA's (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities), tailor your resume to the KSA's, and make sure you answer any and all questions pertaining to the KSA's. Most likely the HR department will have a computer scan these first looking for key words, if doesn't find the words it is looking for, you get rejected.

I chuckled when I read #4 ("TMI"). I knew a retired officer who put all kinds of stuff on his 20-page resume. He even had a comment that he played clarinet in his high school band. His logic was that it could potentially give a reader a way to connect with him. He said that only happened once (being asked about the clarinet) in all of his interviews.
