Tennessee has a 9.6% sales tax. We have no state income tax (prohibited by state constitution amendment) though. Property taxes can be a bit on the high side depending on location.

Alabama doesn't tax military retirement so I settled here instead of NC or GA.
Income taxes are from 2-5% depending on income. Sales taxes is 4%

Yes they are. But I prefer to live in a small town in Nebraska. The climate here sucks sometimes but I wouldn't live anywhere else. I have worked all over this great country and I don't have much use for oceans or mountains. I love the plains states. The people here are good hard working folks. It is a good place to raise kids. This is a strongly conservative state. We don't put up with the bullshit of New York or california. Sure the taxes are high but I will pay them and complain about them but it's worth it not to have to put up with liberal bullshit.
