When I enlisted, we had fatigues. I do not know when fatigues came in, but we started switching out of them in early 1980. Since then, the Army started on a frivolous clothes buying spree.

The BDU was to be the uniform that was supposed to hide the soldier from radar and the same went for the camoflage net. I sill have my BDUs. What is the new fangled uniform supposed to do?

We need to settle on two types of uniforms. Woodland (BDUs) and desert. All I know is the civilian clothes manufacturers are getting rich off of DOD and in a few years, we will have another new fangled combat uniform.

The worst of it when we switch over, the new Private gets the new uniform and everyone else must buy them. Clothing allowance is good for sewing kit, or boot laces. The BDU was expensive when I had to buy them.

What needs to happen is that we should not need to consider newer uniforms until about 20 to 25 years down the road. This is getting ridiculus spending money we do not have. The taxpayer pays for everything. This is NOT government money, this is taxpayer money. The taxpayer, they spent money like the government does on clothes, they would need another house to store these new fangled duds in.

Personally, I would like to see the M1 Garand come back. It may be a little heavy, but a 30.06 round packs a helluva punch. I saw a video my son shared with me when someone shot a jihadi with a SAW. It took 3 passes to take the jihadi down and each pass hit its mark. An M1, one round.

We just do not need anymore uniforms. Use the one we have.
