Best method for Death Penalty?

The Supreme Court of the US is hearing arguments on lethal injection.
You hear horror stories about botched injections.
What are your thoughts about the mechanisms of lawfully killing someone?
This assumes you favor the death penalty in the first place but the survey only allows five slots and coincidentally there are five methods.

There is no "good" method. If some deserves to be executed, then it need to be quick and not messy.

Nitrogen Asphyxiation.

Like a gas chamber, but "normal" air. Air is 78% Nitrogen, 21% Oxygen, .5% CO2. Take the Oxygen out, replace it with Nitrogen, and the person is knocked unconscious in seconds, dies peacefully in minutes, and there is no "contamination."

You should have added an option for any/all of the above. Since the death penalty is designed to leave the recepient dead, all will work to that end. I think we fret too much about any possible "suffering" or "discomfort" the condemned might feel. While I don't advocate cruel and unusual punishment I think all of these end the matter pretty quickly.

Lethal injection is a pretty easy way out for some of these folks that have committed barbaric crimes and suffering upon their victims.

I think a "firing squad" would be best, but by that I mean we can automate the process (remove the issue of people having to pull the trigger essentially). With modern technology we can zero in right on the heart and be done with it quick and easy.

I am a firm believer in the firing squad. It is fast, it is reasonably inexpensive, and most importantly, it reminds the person that what they did led to their end. I understand cruel and unusual punishment is bad, but so is letting a person who has committed such a heinous act that they are to be executed for it off with a nap.

I think that the french had it right with guillotine. Maybe that should be used for executions. The thought of losing the head may even be a deterrent to some people.

Not only do I favor the death penalty, I believe that criminals who are becoming increasingly violent in their crimes should have to watch the execution. I know that many will say that this is wrong, but, it is a method that has been used in the past to show those who may end up on death row what the future will hold for them if they do not change their ways. The sight of watching a person being hung would be a powerful deterrent to most, and could actually end up saving lives. The well being of over 350 million American lives trumps the well being of the few violent criminals who otherwise would not care. Let's not forget how many of those violent crimes are committed against children, elderly, and handicapped people who could not defend themselves. Vote me down all you will, until we return to treating criminals like criminals, crime will continue to get worse.

I think that Lethal Injection is probably the best way to go. I know they keep saying that the European companies that previously produced the lethal injection combination refuses to make it but you cannot honestly tell me that it cannot be reproduced here in the US. We do have laboratories and chemists who can come up with it and have it just as effective.

Rope is reusable and costs about .$49 cents a foot. That should be more money than we spend on murderers, but it is cheaper than the cost of rifle ammunition.

I honestly think that the criminal should be executed by the same manner in which he killed his victim. Executions should be in a public venue and used as a deterrent to crime.

Firing squad seems good, but a public hanging would probably deter crime. I also think they should expedite those that have no doubt, Ft. Hood shooting, to the day after conviction.

I picked firing squad because bullets in 5.56mm range from $.39 to $.55 per round, and assuming a squad of 5 we are looking at a material cost of under $3. Not to mention less chance of it being botched. If a criminal is convicted of a capital crime, the appeals process can take decades. So with the insane amount of money that it takes to go through that, there is no sense using expensive forms of execution. However, i have a better idea of what to do with them. If we were to get a C130 full of these vicious anti social types and dump them in a country we dont like and leave them a crate of weapons and ammo, imagine all of the havoc they would cause. At least they would serve a purpose in this case.

The problem with methods listed are they are considered the most humane. How can you put to death someone humanely who either committed multiple murders or slowly slaughtered their victims? The following methods were designed that the condemned would feel little if any pain when carried out. How is that justice for the victims?

I also have a problem with all the outside influences when it comes to the death penalty. If someone is convicted and sentenced to death, let the victim's next of kin be the executioner. They decide the method. I'm sure the masses of this Boston massacre will teach that bomber a final lesson of mercy.

There are many other methods that were used during the medival days that I wish used. True, they are considered barbaric; but how does that compare to to someone who committed such a heinous act that he/she rates the death penalty?

Of the options provided, firing squad. Whatever is quick, painless and gets the job done and that best fits that job description.

Lethal injections was thought to be the best though there are doubts as to the "painless" portion of it. Hanging doesn't always kill instantly or if high enough to guarantee an instant kill it could cause decapitation. The gas chamber is border line Nazi, isn't slow and I can't imagine painless. Electrocution, well, the Green Mile comes to mind. They might not all be that gruesome but the fact remains that there have been instances where they have had to roll more than once because they didn't actually kill the person the first time.

A firing squad however if done right will guarantee a quick and relatively painless death and is cost effective. Ammo is far cheaper than any of the others aside from the rope for a noose.

I am not sure how I feel about this. If you receive the death penalty it should be carried out humanely.... Although killing another human is not humane. I'm torn. I want justice for the victims but we should be a humane society in how we treat others.

Can we deploy them to Afghanistan with one magazine of blanks and a case of old C rats and tell them for every month you survive we'll take off three on your sentence? If not, I heard that a round only costs .05 to get. Compare that to the cost of keeping a death row inmate alive through the appeals process.

I am up for any method that inflicts the type of pain on the criminal that the victim endured. There is a reason the individual is on death row, it is not usually for being kind-hearted or humane and avoiding cruel and inhumane treatment of someone... We, as a nation, need to step forward and learn to make the death penalty the deterrent that it is designed to be. Other nations that have harsh ways to die do not have near the issues that the US does with repeat criminals that earn the death penalty.

I have always said that if they get the death penalty, the person convicted should be executed in the same manner, so if they blew something up then strap a block of C-4 to them and push the button.....though hanging someone wouldnt cost anything but a rope.

It depends on the infraction. If the subject choked someone to death, hang them. If the subject shot someone to death, firing squad. If they raped someone, cut off their junk. Child molesters get their hands chopped off. But that's just me. If I was to think like a liberal who had to choose between these five options, I'd say that lethal injection is the easiest way to pay for your sins.

I work in Vet medicine and I can tell you if can be done humanely bc we do it.. it has to be done with competent qualified people that know how to place a IV catheter first and then the solution can be administered. But if you ask me if the are there bc they took the life of someone knowsley then they to be have life taken in the same way.
