I've always wondered what the feathers on their berets meant, and I was told that they're combat awards, similar to our CAB/CIB. I believe they have to be for valor. Anyway, thought I'd share for any here who were curious like me. They're not valor awards. My roommate in Bosnia was an officer with the 5th Battalion, Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, who wear a red and white feather in their cap. It's called a hackle, after the feathers on the back of a rooster's neck. The guy in your photo is in the Royal Highland Fusiliers, and that's their normal headdress.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hackle

Hackle

Response by MAJ Tom McCuin made Jun 17 at 2020 2:13 PM 2020-06-17T14:13:48-04:00 2020-06-17T14:13:48-04:00 2014-07-01T08:12:38-04:00
