Brits/Canadians with feathers in their berets.

I was up in Canada last week and met with some members of the Canadian and Dutch military. I've always wondered what the feathers on their berets meant, and I was told that they're combat awards, similar to our CAB/CIB. I believe they have to be for valor. Anyway, thought I'd share for any here who were curious like me.

Just finding this at random six years after it was posted... They're not valor awards. My roommate in Bosnia was an officer with the 5th Battalion, Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, who wear a red and white feather in their cap. It's called a hackle, after the feathers on the back of a rooster's neck. The guy in your photo is in the Royal Highland Fusiliers, and that's their normal headdress.
