1963, took a ship to the Far East...over a 1000 troops, including Seabees and 100 airborne. once at sea, it gets boring and all are on deck in t-shirt with name and rank on t-shirt. gung-ho airborne buck sergeant walking around rounding up folks for details...came up to me (name and rank on shirt, E5) and told me to move it. I politely told him I'd be glad to help him with the detail but I don't work for another E5. At this point I stood up and he got up in my face and told me drop and give him 20, I smiled and said "no"; I never saw an airborne sergeant have a fit like that. guess nobody ever told him no before. He went and got his lieutenant and I explained it to him. At this point I asked to see the Battalion commander so off we went. the sitting commander was a medical colonel (I was medical)...He told them both to get out of his office and leave his medics alone. no shit (LOL)

There are two possible answers:
1) Of course not, why would you ask?
2) Well, assuming someone had a sort of positiinal authority over you... they're a jerk abusing their power. Plain and simple if your bosses go along with it then they are definitely playing favorites.

I've locked up Soldiers on only 4 occasions over the last 20+ years, and all for SERIOUSLY screwing up. One of the first things I do when talking to another Soldier is tell them to relax if they're standing at parade rest; I've found that most Soldiers see this as a sign of camraderie because I view them as a fellow Soldier rather than someone less than me. Now as far as locking up an NCO, I personally never would - I'd separate him or her from everyone else, then we'd talk in private NCO to NCO (and I have done this on several occasions...one of the first things I do is tell the person to sit down, which allows them to calm down and think).

Yes if the one has more time in grade, and is his or her supervisor.
