Can a Soldier take a diagnostic APFT while on a temporary profile? https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/can-a-soldier-take-a-diagnostic-apft-while-on-a-temporary-profile <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>In my previous unit, if a SM wanted to take the diagnostic apft, the commander would have to write a memo with the SM's names and submit it to the battallion commander. I've been doing alot of research all evening but really havent found anything that hits the nail on the head. A little assistance please. What prevents the member from doing a diagnostic APFT themselves? I was rehabbing with a physical therapist within the limits of my temp profile and I wanted to know how much I have dropped off on my APFT while being on profile that long, so I asked the Command to take it and they said yes. That was that. This might not be the answer you were looking for but in my case, it was Command discretion. I would not have them take APFT for record but would ask them if they wanted to perform an APFT for diagnostic purposes, and ensuring that they followed the guidelines set by the temp profile. It is all command discretion, really. I ask the Soldier if they want to do it, then run it by the commander before I give my answer back down to the Soldier. It is the commander's decision to enforce the recommendations or not (and then taking responsibility if the Soldier gets injured further). There is no regulation that states a Soldier cannot take a physical fitness test during a profile, the profile just excuses the individual. Yes, commanders can authorize a Soldier take a diagnostic APFT. There may be command guidance from higher levels that determine the procedure - such as your previous unit with the memo to BN. If he has a profile with a doctors recommendation, against something specific like running, pushing, etc why would he go against that? On the other hand why can he do a diagnostic and not a for record? If he feels capable of taking it he can go back to the TMC and get it revoked. Soldiers think they are slick with these profiles I simply don't get it, twice a year we get pay to take a fitnes test everyone in the Army knows that but Soldiers will put more effort getting out of the APFT than simply taking the d thing. A temp profile is just a recommendation. Most commanders do not force a sm to take a pt test on a temp profile because they would habe to be held responsible for further injury and as we all know, carp runs downhill. Think about it. The sm is injured, sees a doc, receives treatment and a temp profile, CO forces sm to take Pt test, sm injury is aggrevated even more, returns to the doc and informs him that he notified his CO who made him take a PT test, now SM has to attend a med board for his injury, med board discharges sm, sm is sent home all because a CO wanted him to take a PT test. No CO wants to be responsible for that so based on the injury, they usually won&#39;t mess with you til about 2-3 weeks after the profile expire. However, they can give you a test as long as your condition doesn&#39;t prevent you from completing the test. I.e a broken arm - no push ups, a broken leg - no running etc. SGT Willie Norwood Sat, 17 Mar 2018 02:20:52 -0400 2018-03-17T02:20:52-04:00 2015-05-26T22:26:38-04:00
