That takes experience and typically recruited for a scholarship, or already played at a competitive level in college.

However, every post MWR has a pretty extensive intramural sports calendar that includes basketball, flag football, softball, volleyball, soccer, pickleball, and sometimes tennis, bowling, darts and even e-sports.
And there's typically a post rugby team that plays other posts and colleges.
Most players on a post rugby team got to the Army with no rugby experience and learn there.
If you have an interest in a few of them, you could be busy all year.Response by SGM Private RallyPoint Member made Jan 13 at 2024 9:00 PM2024-01-13T21:00:33-05:002024-01-13T21:00:33-05:00COL Randall C.8624023

Technically, no experience is required .. but if you don't have any, you'll probably not make the screening. You can apply for any number of sports on the All-Army Sports Team*, but just like a job, if you don't have a resume that catches the screener's interest, it's not going to go anywhere.

There are likely many other options available through your post's MWR program though.
-------------------------------------------
* https://www.armymwr.com/programs-and-services/sports-fitness/all-army-sports/applications

All you have to do is to demonstrate overwhelming ability to the team’s manager/coach.Response by CSM Charles Hayden made Jan 13 at 2024 9:39 PM2024-01-13T21:39:39-05:002024-01-13T21:39:39-05:00SSgt Christophe Murphy8626932

You can always apply but you need to seriously manage your expectations. Most Servicemembers making it on their Branches respective sports team of any discipline has a lot of talent and experience. It is rare to walk on without a pre-established background but if you are a natural there is always a chance.

But with that said your MWR may have a league to play in at the Base level or possibly Regional against other bases/Units.Response by SSgt Christophe Murphy made Jan 16 at 2024 9:19 AM2024-01-16T09:19:33-05:002024-01-16T09:19:33-05:00Cadet CPL Private RallyPoint Member8739053

HelloResponse by Cadet CPL Private RallyPoint Member made Apr 27 at 2024 11:30 AM2024-04-27T11:30:45-04:002024-04-27T11:30:45-04:002024-01-13T20:34:33-05:00
