SPC Private RallyPoint Member 6966482

So my board packet got sent up for a paper board. ( deployed to defender 2021) and I got denied my P status because my pt score isn't good enough. It's at a 249 while I'm on a permanent profile of no running because of my knee surgery. The sgt major then asked my leadership to see my profile after the board was concluded. Is there anything I can do? I was always told they couldn't deny promotion based on you being on profile? Can I be denied promotion based on pt score and being on a permanent profile? 2021-05-11T05:18:25-04:00 SPC Private RallyPoint Member 6966482

So my board packet got sent up for a paper board. The only legal way for them to deny promotion is if you get flagged. It kind of sounds like your 1SG, who was probably sitting on the board, didn't explain your situation to your CSM. If you want to stay in, don't let having a permanent profile discourage you. You will have to make up the points lost in PT and make them up somewhere else. I received a P3 when I was a SSG. I would run at my own pace and distance and do the 2.5 mile walk. I had SNCOs tell me that I would be able to make MSG, not 1SG, and that was about how far I would go in rank. I had a awesome BCT CSM (11X), who saw me as a quality leader and not someone only with a P3, and he gave me the HHC 1SG job. I was told by MP CSMs that I wouldn't get an MP 1SG job because I had a P3. Because of this CSM giving me the chance as a 1SG, I was selected to attend USASMA (Sergeants Major Academy) in the secondary zone. I got stuck being a OPs SGM and wasn't selected for CSM because of my P3 (my theory). So you don't let anyone tell you that you can't progress in rank with a P3. You guessed it Soldier A.

Its the Military way. Your supervisor (whom ever escorted you to the board) should have been in the boardroom to observe the process. Their accounts would be more accurate and not hearsay. If your PT score alone is determined to be the cause, then you have a legit complaint once it is in writing.
Now for the hard truth. Win or lose your appeal or complaint, you will still have to face those that did not recommend the promotion, on a daily basis until you PCS. Good luck with that. Just calling it the way I see it. Same if you go Unk on the range, you be made fun of , you’d be the company joke. Granted it’s not 1979 anymore but somewhere in there has to be enough personal pride to not allow that under any reasonable circumstances. Peer pressure is a big thing, and it’s tough to to say follow me but you can’t pass a PT test. I can’t ever remember anyone ever in my 4 years fail either, it would have been unthinkable. I saw a guy run 3 miles under time with a stress fracture in his leg and the DI ran with him every step of the way, that dude was heroic that day, the pain had to be unbelievable, but he passed.
