Will you get gigged depends on how well the AIr Assault Instructor inspects them. Let's put it like this. If you were in a formation for inspection would you be wearing these or do you think that a platoon sergeant, platoon leader, first sergeant or company commander would allow it to fly without telling the troop to go spend some of that clothing reimbursement money and get a new set.

It's the same as someone wearing cook whites to a formation. You stand out and not in a good way. You are going to a school. You need to be dress right dress and squared away from top to bottom. That includes your daily uniform. Go get a new set or two from clothing sales and have them altered nad pressed and ready for Air Assault School.

You want to stand out for the positive, not the negative in any school and trust me, as having taught the Air Assault course, once you are on a particular sergeants radar for a negative, they tend to look more closely. It's a small indicator that the troop does not have what it takes. Remember, you are a specialist, which means that you should be setting the example for the E-1's to E-3's below you to follow. You may one day be leading them and showing up dressed as such is not professional. Get new ones. I would not take anything additional nor anything less than what is on the packing list. It is one of the first items they check when you arrive. If you do not have items on the packing list or they are not considered serviceable upon inspection you used to be dropped from the course at that point. I don't remember what happens if you bring too much.....too long ago but they probably tell you to not bring it on AAS grounds or something to that effect. Especially Airborne or Air Assault where any attention you garner will only be of the negative variety resulting in massive amounts of corrective physical conditioning and other unpleasantries. You'd think they'd let him buy shoes but they ultimately paid about $1,500 for a flight overseas for that school.

You want to go there knowing you'll pass Day zero inspection without any issues. There are walk-ons waiting for people to get DQ'd, so plan accordingly! And what do you need black spray paint for? Bring exactly what's on the packing list. Don't make life any harder on yourself. Its already going to be tough enough just going to AA school.
