Can we learn from Australia on border security and Illegal "immigration"?

After a failed experiment of welcoming ALL to Australia, a new administration put on the brakes, enforced their borders/coastlines, turned boatloads of potential illegals around, and flew home, those who actually made it into Australia. Is this a model for the US to follow, or should we continue on our current path?

Youve arrived in Australia illegally. As a result, you will never get to stay here. You will never get to be an Australian. So, you have two options- we will take you to a processing center, and you will wait in detention for your asylum application to be processed. Or we will fly you home free.

In a recent interview on the Radio, a spokesperson from Australia also indicated that over 2000 people died trying to make it to Australia by boat during their experiment in open immigration. The same issue abounds at our Southern border (nearly 6000 dead since 1998) as well as with the stretch of water between Cuba and the Florida Keys (estimated 16,000 dead since 1959).

Of course, Cubans have a special incentive, as they are granted legal permanent residency, and eventual US citizenship once they step foot on dry land.

It might sound rude or crude to some but we cannot continue allowing illegal immigrants to stay in our country with free, to them, resources and benefits. When they are caught, depending on where they are from put them back on a bus, train, plane or boat and send them back. Yes it will cost money to do this but it will be cheaper than allowing them to flood a broken immigration system.

I messed up on my vote by not reading and thinking about the old Australia's immigration system which was to allow all in since their country was under populated. The state of GA, and a few others, like AUS was set up as prison colonies by the British. The US used to let all in because we need people to help settle the US and then out West. Times change and the risk of open borders have changed.

SSG Gerhard S. Remember the Australian SF established quite a hard corps reputation in Vietnam! Maybe not as fierce as the ROKs, but the ROKs were on our payroll!
