Since it's a plate carrier and offers no ballistic protection, that's not a big deal, until your unit says no plate carriers. They're usually only authorized for vehicle crew members anyway, simply because there is no ballistic protection.

As for the color, we have lots of outdated patterns being worn on TA50. I have been in the Army for a while and the days of aftermarket bought gear for Soldiers, in regular Army units are over. It used to be a thing but major items such as body Armor nowadays are issued at CIF and that is what is expected for you to wear. They may not be the most comfortable and lightweight item out there but trust me, it is design to stop a few bullets if worn correctly. You may be able to buy and aftermarket pouch or sling but thats all the gear I have seen bought by the individual Soldier in a regular Army unit not SOF. If the unit allows something different then by all mean spend the money if not save some of that hard earn money for a vacation or investments. Put the new gear you just bought with your hard earned money next to the free stuff that has gone through army testing.

Once that is done, use your device to call your FFL (hint, it's not a social media platform) over.
