Maj Chris Nelson 261255

I have a buddy that is Army Guard, in an AGR position. He is one of the Admin guys (used to be PAC office, now, not sure what they call it!). He just saw the pricetag on them $250!! He is hoping that the unit does not make him get one... so, the questions I have: 1. Do you have to be MOSQ CAV to wear the Stetson or just assigned to the unit? 2. Are they optional or can a unit direct the purchase of one? (ok, I understand that this could be dependant on leadership decissions....). The spurs are the no no for just anone to wear. Stetsons can be worn by anyone on the planet. It is just showing support for the CAV if they are "outsiders." They CANNOT put the unit on their crossed sabers though! Rank only....unles they are CAV. I earned my Silver Spurs on a Cav Spur Ride at my first unit. I'm not part of the Cav Squadron right now, but with MEDCOM. I got 'once Cav, always Cav.' But to attend a formal MEDCOM Ball, would it be incorrect to wear the Stetson and Spurs instead of beret and no spurs? Or does it matter? My gut tells me that Stetson and Spurs can be worn at Cav functions, but not at MEDCOM ball if I'm not currently part of Cav unit. Anyone help?? The Cavalry Unit Commander will establish a spur ride program and lay out rules for wear. One does not wear the Stetson without earning the Spurs. I was an Ordnance Officer in the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment, has nothing to do with "MOSQ" anything, unless maybe a RC Commander adds it to the Spur qualification checklist (I know MOSQ is hard in the RC). after all, that is the point of crossed sabers, Stetsons , and Spurs. In the Cavalry, everyone is a Cavalryman....even the loggies.

The wear of these items is all by authority of the Unit Commander and doesn't really apply when you leave, unless you are attending a Cav function with another Cavalry unit. Then you are at Fiddler's Green and everyone else can ram it.

He won't be directed to get one but he will want to earn one. I've heard rumors you can order them from supply. To wear the Stetson you have to be in or have been in a cavalry unit or be a scout. From what I'm tracking you dont have to have your spurs to wear it aswell.
