Current events tend to repeat themselves throughout history. Liberty seems to be waiving good buy, and security is at its low and divided.

But security always seems interesting.

Liberty. Little by little, the rights we fight for Americans to have are being snatched away from them in the name of security. News flash, there will always be a crazy person in the world that wants to hurt others. TSA has not caught 1 "terrorist" (politicians love that word) but have had multiple lawsuits against them for abuse of authority.

Just a friendly historical reminder. Joseph Stalin took the firearms from the citizens of his nation and then massacred them. They gave up theor guns for security.

Lastly, if you believe gun control laws will prevent a criminal from getting their hands on a gun, you're in need of a reality check

I just want to make one more comment. How free is our nation when we have the highest percentage of incarcerated citizens per capita than the rest of the nations of the world

I would say an equal balance of both with an emphasis on liberty for the more security you have, eventually the less liberty one will be able to excise

Our enemies, esp those in the World Terrorism end of things, have found that using our liberties against US is more effective than chopping heads and they sincerely hope that our passion for liberty will trump our need for security in the long run.

Both. It is a balancing act. When security overrides liberty there is a problem. On the other hand when there is a lack of security there is no liberty either. It is a fine line to walk.

Both, we shouldn't have to choose one or the other. George Bush gave us the same ultimatum, look how its been used against us through the Obama administration. There are ways to keep both, first assaulting someone, torching their property and making threats against the president is NOT free speech, its a violation of the law. We need to uphold the laws that exist and stop letting the ignorant redefine what they mean.

The answer is "both." This is the centuries old dilemma facing people in establishing and maintaining a government of any type to rule over them. Current events, including terrorist attacks across the globe, make many people believe security is more important. They are willing to give up some liberty to ensure they are secure in their homes and persons. I believe this is a good trade-off in the current environment. It's up to the legislature and courts to counter balance the executive branch making sure our basic civil rights aren't excessively infringed while keeping us safe from external threats.

Fortunately, many threats can be countered without limiting the rights of US Citizens. For example, strict border enforcement does not significantly limit the rights of US Citizens while making them safer. It also limits illegal aliens "stealing" the Citizens' money through consumption of welfare and other government-provided benefits paid for with tax money.

Liberty and security are both important. From a security standpoint, we as a country have an obligation to control our borders. When we fly, we have to go through long TSA lines so that there is less chance that our plane will be blown out of the sky. Will someone give me concrete examples of what personal freedoms that they have lost?

Liberty. That's what makes the USA. That is what is to be defended. That commitment to liberty is codified in the Constitution of the United States, which is the anchor of loyalty in the oaths sworn or affirmed by the military, by law enforcement, and by civilian officials of government. Take away the liberty, and we no longer have a USA.

One other issue with imigration has to do with limited resources. There was a report commissioned by the "Club of Rome" titled The Limits to Growth. I discovered it in a public administration ethics class, it was in the text book. The concern is exponential global population increase by 2050. An acre of land can only support x number of life, any increases past the point of equalibrium, all life suffers.
