Did anyone know that NOAA is considered a uniform service?

So is the NHS (Sorry Public Health Service, I served too long with the Brits). Did a tour in DC and I learned all kinds of neat things there.

It's also worth noting that NOAA Officer Candidates now attend Coast Guard Officer Candidate School (OCS) alongside Coast Guard Officer Candidates.

NOAA provides some very important services for mariners, such as nautical publications like the Coast Pilot, surveying, etc.

Officers aboard National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration vessels are somewhat of a hybrid. They are likely to be experts in fields like engineering, oceanography and fisheries science, but they also have to be able ship handlers and officers.

They also only have about 320 commissioned officers, as opposed to the US PHS having 6,500 or so commissioned officers.

Only the six branches (USA, USMC, USN, USAF, USNG and USCG) show up if you look up the Uniform Services on the DOD website. But if you really dig into some of DOD's documents you will see this quote:
"As used in this report, "uniformed services" refers to the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the U.S. Public Health Service."
