Elements of the 20th SFG(A) (including me) flew in a Douglas C-124 Globemaster from NAS Jacksonville to NAS Roosevelt Roads, Puerto Rico (and back) for an exercise in June, 1971. That was the only time I was ever at Roosevelt Roads. Thanks for the update. The closure was a real drama and as so, at this time it does not matter. It is closed. However, It was the largest US Navy Station in the world, and with excellent point of strategical interest. As a matter of fact, the operation had to be divided in five locations, and it is a ... XYZ ... Nevertheless, they still have minor operation, and the Am-force cover some of the old strategy to keep the ears opened.
