My Grandfather served in the 11th Airborne Division in Korea, he joined to find his brother who was (and still is a POW). My father also served 25 (I believe) in the Service and retired last year with 40 years of civil service (or 39... I should know this :P).

I have no pictures, but I can say that on my mothers side----My Grandfather was Navy during WW2 in the PTO.....due to his brother being killed on the Arizona. My Great Uncle (also on my mothers side) was a Side Gunner during WW2 in the ETO. Had a few cousins on both sides served as well. One was a Marine during Vietnam stationed at Okinawa. My Father was a Marine at Camp Pendleton during Korea.

My paternal grandfather was an Army officer during WWII, he died when I was a baby so I don't remember him at all.

My dad was actually born in occupied Japan.

My grandfather was a navigator on a bomber during WWII. We lost him just over two years ago. If I had to say someone had inspired me to serve, it would be him.

SPC(P) Private RallyPoint Member, my now deceased father, Jack Curlee (see photo), served during WWII in the U.S. Navy from 1JUL43 to 26JUN46. When he was released from active duty he was a Lieutenant (junior grade). My father told me all about his time in the service to include tracing his route to the South Pacific and back. He was 93 years old when he passed away on 10SEP15.
Both of my grandfathers served in WWI, although neither went overseas.
You didn't ask, but all three of my uncles, served overseas in the Army during WWII.
Also, at least six of my eight great, great grandfathers served in the CSA during the War Between the States.

My Grandfather, James Charles Coe, served in WW I in Headquarters Company, 164th Infantry Regiment, 41st Division. He was in France in 1918-19. He was in the North Dakota National Guard before the US entered WWI. I didn't know he served until after my father died in 1997.

Every paternal male ancestor since they came over from Scotland. No photos except my Dad from WWII and Korea (Navy fighter pilot) but my brothers prize family heir loom is a hand carved wooden pipe bowl carved by Jacob Bell, my great great Grandfather, with a sharp piece of gravel in Andersonville Prison during the civil war. Jacob was first in our line of Bells to arrive from Scotland.

My maternal grandfather was too young for WW1, but he did leave school to work in a factory supporting the war effort at age 15. Finally graduated HS at age 21. He was too old for WW2, 40 yrs old when attack on Pearl Harbor happened. But he did do govt contract work making black out shades. His company (all 6 employees and 17 yr old bookkeeper) at one point was making a black out shade every 32 seconds to keep up with demand, delivering them to Bremerton Navy Yard, Ft Lewis, McChord AFB and all over Wash state.

My dad was in the Army reserves, 1959-62 i believe. I remember seeing some old photos. He once told me he kept making E-3 and his SGT suggested finding another line of work. By that time he was 27. That's as much as i recall, we weren't close.

My Dad, David R. McCarter was in the US Navy as an Electronic Technician 1st Class. and served in the Asiatic Pacific theater of operations in WWII mostly at sea and also served during the Korean War at Pearl Harbor NS. I'm happy to report He is now 90 and still in good health and not even any mobility problems. he lives about 4 miles from with my Mom now 88 and also in good health and no mobility problems either. when I entered the service Myself though it was the US Air Force from which I retired as a SMSgt.

In my direct line, 4 in the War for Independence (one KIA), one in the War of 1812, three in the Civil War--two great-great grandfathers were cavalry (10th Ohio and 6th Kansas--both KIA) and my great grandfather was a drummer boy in the 22d Illinois, my dad was a Chief Petty Officer who served 50 straight months aboard USS Relief from September 1940 until November 1944 and made five landings as leading petty officer or chief petty officer in one of the collecting and clearing companies, I served in the Marine Corps in Vietnam and elsewhere, and my son just retired from the Air Force two flying tours in the Gulf. We do this military thing pretty regularly.

My father-in-law had his college experienced interrupted by what he calls a walking tour through Europe in the mid 1940s. He was an FO in the 71st ID. In his home office he has a a illustrated map of their march which shows their engagements and humor.

This is my Dad, Sgt Lincoln Rountree, sitting in a B-17 tail gunner's seat circa 1944 at RAF Rattlesden, England (447th Bombardment Group (Heavy)) during WWII as a U.S. Army Air Forces ammo troop (bomb loader). He later volunteered to be part of the occupation of Germany and was stationed in Augsburg. He passed at the age of 77 on 24 July 2001. My Grandfather, William Henry Rountree II, served in the Army during WWI. From the records I found, he helped build Fort (Camp) Lewis in Washington in 1917/18. He passed in June 1962.

My Father was with the 1st Marine Division at the Chosin, he was one of 12 out 220 in his company not to get wounded by enemy fire. He did get frostbite and had later medical problems. No photos available he said they were to busy to take photos.

My grandfather was killed on the Russian front, he was Wehrmacht. Early 40's I think.

My grandfather was in WWI. He was captured, escaped, gassed and then came home with shell shock. He went on to Carnegie to become and electrical engineer and his company did the wiring for the first atomic reaction in Shay Stadium. Manhattan Project engineer.
