Do we sufficiently value and protect our military ID card?

I asked some Lt's the question if you noticed you lost your wallet what would you have prefer to have been in side of it, your Military id card or $3000? Without any hesitation they all said military id card simply because they could just write up a counseling and just get a new one as oppose to having to wait for 2 or 3 paychecks to build that money back. Right answer or wrong answer? Keep in mind the rapid rise of (TERRORIST).

I'd say both are the wrong answer in most cases... I don't know WHY anyone would need to carry $3k in their wallet... keep it on a credit or debit card... then it's really easy to get that money back if your wallet is stolen.

But losing your ID card is a SIGNIFICANT security concern... from time to time I'll misplace mine, and I find it hard to SLEEP until I can at LEAST remember where I left it...

I see you concern SFC Butler, and I understand the question.
It is a shame of the lack of thought some people put into the severity of their
CAC card, but with the whole terrorist concern, like what SGT O'Neill said it
is too easy to create a fake, and if they are trying to make their way on post.
They don't even need a CAC in most places. They only need a valid Driver’s license.
I have, and have had civilian friends (former military) come right on to the
post I am currently on and not said a word to the guard. Just shown them a
picture ID not military ID and drive right on. Also with other posts, we are
pretty much falling on our own swards if you ask me. When it comes to accessing
military installations, it gets worse when it comes to access but I don't want
to put that out on here. But as you said the CAC is an important piece of
security that people don't take enough care or thought of.

wow that is ridiculous, well I just don't want to have any regrets as to say it was my id card that someone used to commit such negligence.

$3000 hands down getting back an ID card in an infantry unit is never easy for the soldier. You have to go to the mp station and everybody knows your the dirtbag that lost his card.You will also never be seen as responsible or able to live it down.

I'd rather lose the $3000. I dont want someone to have a picture of me and my PII. Cash is not linked to my personal info. After 11 yrs in service I finally/actually fell victim to losing my ID card while deployed and I was at an outstation. First thing I did was call the wife and tell her to keep an eye out on any bank/account activity. 2 weeks later Army decides to issue new ID card without SSN on it. Go figure , my luck.

People are not taking losing an Id card as serious as they should. As many operation security classes that are being given we still seem to have ID cards being left in computers.

Could you tolerate losing your ID card or your credit card, which would make you jump through hopes to get it back or start making calls to bring awareness to this matter?
