The draft was all over the news, along with Vietnam, when I was growing up. (Also, draft dodgers, draft card burning, fleeing the draft by traveling/moving to Canada ... just a couple of things the draft reminds me of.)Response by CW5 Private RallyPoint Member made Nov 1 at 2014 5:26 PM2014-11-01T17:26:45-04:002014-11-01T17:26:45-04:00LTC Stephen C.386471

SGM Private RallyPoint Member, the draft lottery that most were concerned about was held on 1DEC69, for use during calendar year 1970. It was for all men born from 1944 to 1950. When my number was called (332), I had already been Fort Jackson since 28OCT69. The Selective Service only used up to number 195 that year, so had I not enlisted, I would have never even had to serve!
The last drawing was held on 12MAR75 for use in 1976 and was for birth year 1956.
Here's a link to the Vietnam era lotteries so you can find your number!

https://www.sss.gov/lotter1.htmResponse by LTC Stephen C. made Dec 25 at 2014 7:54 PM2014-12-25T19:54:39-05:002014-12-25T19:54:39-05:00Capt Loren Morgan7617827

My draft # was107Response by Capt Loren Morgan made Apr 10 at 2022 10:30 AM2022-04-10T10:30:36-04:002022-04-10T10:30:36-04:00PO2 Joel Warthen7713047

68Response by PO2 Joel Warthen made Jun 5 at 2022 9:41 PM2022-06-05T21:41:52-04:002022-06-05T21:41:52-04:00SPC Michael Tierney7768699

I was drafted in 1967 before there were numbers. People told me to join the reserves or guard or I would go to Vietnam. I opted for shortest commitment which was two years as draftee. MOS was 11bravo and Vietnam was my assignment.
Cut time to 21 months with early out to go to college.
