If a Soldier has a substance use problem would they self report to receive treatment or would they continue to use and try to keep their command's from finding out.

Sort of. The best thing to do would be to confront the individual in a non official capacity, give him or her the opportunity to self refer. That was what my LPO did for me. I went through SARD(now SARP) and have been sober for 13 years now.

I think that very often, soldiers will try to cover it up and move on, and maybe try to fix the issue on their own in private, thereby forgoing the possible repercussions.  But as MSG(P) Quick stated, it depends on the individual and their personal values.
