Yet, with so many places around the world falling into ISIS/ISIL hands, we are now seeing the effects of a new type of enemy; not just another terrorist organization. This enemy leverages social networking extremely effectively to recruit and inspire people to commit atrocities while filming with Hollywood quality videos, and also as a conduit for command and control of their forces. In addition to the traditional battlefields and COIN tactics, we will need to fight them in battlespaces we are not used to fighting in (cyberspace: cyber defense and offense ops, countering enemy social media efforts, etc). Air power and SpecOps are effective but to fight this enemy, we will need a higher and unfortunately unpopular commitment to win - whether it's in Yemen, Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, or anywhere else ISIS/ISIL is popping up.
