Does a quick PCS mean a quick deployment?

I just came down on orders for Fort Polk with a report date in 3 months. Does that mean the unit Im going to is deploying soon?

Highly doubt it Polk is a training center not a place units deploy out of anymore atleast

While it never personally happened to me, I knew several Soldiers that had orders come down out of the blue. "Needs of the Army" doesn't always make sense on the ground.

Quick orders do not always mean deployment. The needs of the Army will always come first. I would wait to see when your orders come down if it is an accompanied tour you should not be deployed right away. Also, I do believe that FT. Polk is a training base and usually, that means non-deployed units. Good luck to you.

Don't speculate. Call your sponsor and find out for sure. If you were going to deploy upon arrival they would already have done the mission rehearsal and lead up. Have you googled the unit to see if they have already made a press release?

True story...
My NCOIC greeted me just as I was walking into work one day. He asked me, "What do you have on your plate today?" I told him, "Nothing really." He said, "Good, you just came down on orders and have a report date in 20 days."
Yeah, 20 days to clear Germany and report to Fort Bliss. I had a wife, two kids in elementary school, and a dog.

Not necessarily, getting PCS orders just means that a slot opened up in some command and they need a body to fill it.

Now could you be deploying soon, it's a possibility. But deployments are done on rotations, so if you are eager to deploy, you need to see where your unit is on the rotation block. Lastly, even if you are being sent to a deploying unit, that doesn't mean you are automatically going. They could already have their bodies stabilized so you might get left behind with the other home guard to clean and do general upkeep until the unit returns.

SGT(P) Private RallyPoint Member Just reach out to your next unit and ask. JRTC is mostly training units and a quick PCS doesn't present a great chance to being deployed according a friend of mine who was there for 5 years. Again, maybe you might be the lucky one who does deploy from there with a unit. Your sponsor or someone else in the unit will be your best answer to your question.

Very likely. I came to Fort Polk in the end of May 2015 and was in Afghanistan by Sep.
And the BDE's next "vacation" to the middle east is coming in about 5 months.

Being you are going to Fort Polk (I feel for you on that), I would guess it means you will be in your unit just in time for the summer rotation schedule for the fun old box.
