Does anyone think paint ball games would be a good training tool?

My plt is actually going to do the paintball range for a sgt time training. Shall be interesting but I'm hoping it will keep everyone motivated in moving more stealthy and doesn't turn into a big goof off.

I think so as both a team building exercise which a lot of companies use it for and teaching some small level tactics. As a form of Fun PT. I think you have a wonderful idea. Much better than what me and my friends use to do as kids we used to shoot each other with BB Guns. Not a Safe Practice.

It depends on how it's conducted. Many training sites have already switched to simunitions (essentially paintballs fired from slightly modified service weapons) in lieu of MILES gear. It provides more realism and since it stings just a little bit, provides incentive to not get shot. However, if you are referring to how paintball is played on the professional level, then no.

If done as a means to teach teamwork and tactical maneuvering, then definitely.

I have done paintball as a platoon training exercise before deployement and I though it was excellent. The main thing it works on is movement and teamwork especially if you have an actual range with houses to work with. I think the main reason it works so well is simply because everyone wants to paintball, it;s fun and keeps everyone involved.

My unit has used paintballs quite frequently, it is an outstanding training aid. Like it was already stated. The reality of getting hit and it hurting is a major motivator, to get it right. Utilized properly it can be somewhat cheaper than the other types of sim rounds, mainly because of only needing co2 & the balls. vs. blanks, adapters, miles, batteries, additional cleaning time on weapons, cause we all know how much more time it takes to clean out the carbon from a day of blanks.

If you incorporate the training with Combat Life Saver it could be an all use aspect. With my Infantry unit in Germany we had squads attack a fire position. Any casualties sustained they were treated and extracted. Works great not only is there pain associated with the round it leaves an obvious sign such as paint in relation to blood.
