Does Detailed Recruiter duty help with career progression? https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/does-detailed-recruiter-duty-help-with-career-progression

So my question is this..... Will being a Recruiter in your Military career in the Army really help with career progression? I was selected for this duty and I am at my tail end of my Involuntary extension or Detailed Recruiting duty, in which I have been very successful on this duty assignment. I had the opportunity to convert to 79R, but I came to my realization that, that is not something that I want to do as far as the rest of my career. Anyone on this "rally point" that is prior servers or of higher rank answer this question? I can ask higher leadership and they all say of course, but I want to know from outside the box.... ?????? And then like 17 or 18 percent more chance of making E8. I believe it is a total volunteer
Sit-rep in the AF .. that I would have really went into full-speed if sent into it. So you do your best job at Recruiting and make them proud they selected the right person for the job and it would certainly benefit you when going for the next upgrade in Rank, SSGT. Benjamin B. Your recruiting duty (successful) is a career enhancer. If your record prior, and your record post are exemplary then it will carry greater weight than the average NCO’s in your CMF. If your primary MOS is top heavy on SSG's, with limited SFC positions, your promotion packet will go in the USAREC stack for 79R at the SFC board and your CMF won't even get to look at it. Happened to me twice. I finished my detailed tour, went back to my MOS, and that same year made the E7 list as a 79R. I declined it and was removed from the list. Next year, the same thing happened. Made the list as a 79R, this time with a high sequence number. Had to get counseled by the BDE CSM, who told me how the board works and having 79R as a secondary was the curse. Needs of the Army wins every time! Also, I was advised that turning down SFC back to back would probably be the kiss of death at future boards, so needless to say I accepted it and sold my soul to the devil. When I went back to Recruiting School, over 3/4 of my class were newly promoted 79R SFC's former detailed recruiters just like me. Bottom line, USAREC doesn't get enough people to voluntary convert, so this is how they get them. So sure, it helps for career progression. If you want to be a station commander in some hell hole. When it comes time to get boarded for SFC, this could and should determine you receiving that promotion.
