Does freedom of speech apply to everyone?

We fight for this country and the 1st amendment of the constitution is critical to this country. But, I am getting frustrated that is limited to whom our DC leadership decides. Article linked below illustrates the issue. A chancellor at a university should not be able to shut down a student union trying to voice their opinion because she disagrees with their opinion.

Free speech applies to everyone. It's just that some people think that their message is more important than someone else's.

Nobody has complete freedom of speech Maj William Gambrell.
For instance, military members cannot endorse a candidate or a commercial product or service while in uniform.
Nobody has the right to insult another person in speech or in writing.
Our responsibility to speak respectfully trumps the right to speak whatever comes to our minds.

Freedom of speech does not apply to military personnel. Try cussing your superior out and see how fast you end up in the brig before you can even utter the word, "my 1st Amendment right is being violated".

Actually the serving military has some limitations that other citizens don't have. Article I, Section 8 of the constitution of the United States.

This is not new. The left can dish it out but they cannot take their own medicine. They drove this young girl out of their school with their harassment.

"There's a Black Student Union for African Americans, a Latinos Unidos for Latin Americans, and an ALOHA Club for Asian Americans at Freedom High -- as is the case in most, if not all, Bay Area high schools. So, Lisa wondered, why not a Caucasian Club?

She had planned for the club to be open to everyone, "a kind of comfortable place," she said in an interview late last month, where students of all backgrounds could talk about race -- with an emphasis on European history -- and how her "whiteness" affects those who aren't white.

The club would go to museums, have fund-raisers, invite speakers.

Funny you should mention it. I am working on a short story about how parents lose their freedom of speech with age. I must hold my tongue at family gatherings "to keep the peace" while the younger generation is free to spout every form of progressive nonsense. I'm not even allowed to laugh at it. And God forbid that we should even glance at a child who coughs for we will be lectured by the mother that she has the situation well in hand. Is it any wonder then that students who are so inclined to rebel against their parents are going to rebel against strangers?

If that school is getting public funding whether directly from the government or through students paying with government funded student loans, the school should be held to the same standard as any other government entity regarding first amendment rights. If it is a privately funded school, then they can do whatever they want.

In this case it depends on what the student handbook says. Colleges are pretty PC nowadays and so are public schools. Example, if you're FOR gay and lesbian lifestlyes, you're cool and can say pretty much whatever you want on the subject. However, if you do NOT agree and get vocal about it, you're "disparaging" a lifestyle..Schools and conservatism had a major disconnect in the 1960's and it went downhill from there. Unfortunately, most schools DO put in the student handbook what subjects ARE ok and what are not ok to talk about. God help you if you tell a dirty joke in anything other than complete privacy (Got bagged for that one while I was in as well..some woman with radar ears..and oddly enough the joke wasn't even ABOUT women)

Say ANYTHING negative about something liberals love and they can shut you down. WHY? Because there's no real definition of "offensive behavior" What might be offensive to a liberal, ivy league professor might be just fine in a bar down Alabama way. It's SUBJECTIVE, meaning if it pisses you off (or even makes you think, something liberals hate to do when confronted with REAL facts) they can shut it down immediately. Unless, of course, you're slamming conservatives, republicans, our country's history, the military or anything even remotely leaning to the right. Then it's open season.

And you should know better than to ask that question being in the military. You KNOW that WE in the military do NOT have any such thing like freedom of speech. "With all due respect to your rank, sir, you're a fucking idiot who will get fragged the first time you go into combat!" because you can't find your ass with both hands, instructions, a GPS unit, and OnStar!

Yeah. How many times have you encountered someone you REALLY wanted to say that to? And you won't see the ACLU stepping up to support anyone taking a whack at liberals or their causes either. PC is a LIBERAL entity. I don't know a single conservative person who thinks PC should even exist. Courtesy, tact and chivalry, yes, but no Political Correctness. As military we're trained to think with facts..black and white. You can't be "a little bit pregnant" nor can someone be a "part time terrorist". Liberals MADE the "GREY AREAS" in our lives. To me, it's right, or it's WRONG, there is no grey.

If you're talking about something with your parents and one of them says "that's enough", do you keep going, or do you shut up and color?

Yes - but liberals don't really like or respect the freedom of speech as it makes much of their rhetoric up for debate. Democratic Sens. Jon Tester and Chris Murphy proposed a constitutional amendment reversing the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision, which Barack Obama lamented in one of his State of the Union addresses, by denying constitutional rights to corporations. This would have pretty much wipe out freedom of the press and some other freedoms as well. I wouldn't expect much less from any college administrator.

You Sir., are way right. And it's important that American Society understands. This very important fact. 50 - % of all looking the other way on crime , federal government policy issues , corruption , destruction of the American family. And so on and so on. Can be traced back to the 'DUAL-CITIZEN' Jew in ownership of Media. And their counter parts with in American government. In time they will be Purged out from the halls of power. Out and away from any position in which WAR can be created , government contracts can be awarded , Judge ships can be obtained , local or national policy can be created , criminal justice can be awarded. And so on and so fourth. We as a Society demand Truth & Justice in the American way. And we will have it. Just as soon as the younger generation understands the truth about how their future has been ripped out from under them. It's a short time form now. Yes, as long as it doesn't bring harm to other individuals. I try to show compassion towards everyone. especially those I don't agree with. I try to understand from their point of view by keeping an open mind. This doesn't always change my world view; but I seek truth.
