It's called an Option 40 enlistment Sir. It allows a guy to sign up with a pipeline trainings that leads straight to RASP 1. So a guy will enlist, go to OSUT, then Airborne School, and then Pre RASP, then RASP. This sometimes (depending on the fiscal year Sir) will allow Ranger bonuses to be paid out upon graduation and first assignment to the Regiment. However, the applicant must qualify, and a vacancy must exist. There may have been a miscommunication or misunderstanding with the recruiter. It is possible that Option 40 is "froze" due to no vacancies/over-strength, which sometimes happens. While technically possible, it could be that option 40 is currently froze. As a former MEPS counselor, I have seen that happen often. Also have seen option 40 only be closed for 11X infantry, but open for other MOS's like supply, food service, admin, medic, etc. Also, There is no pinpoint to a Bn, only to the Regiment.
