Some Technical schools have vouchers built in to their classes so it can work with them. Go to Army on line then go to my education and it should be there. It's been almost four years but you should be able to find it. There's also plenty of websites out there that offer discounted vouchers that are about to expire. Hope this helps.

Military Testing with Pearson VUE and CompTIA

Pearson VUE and CompTIA provide certification testing for U.S. service members and offers DoD 8570 mandated IT exams.

1SG Private RallyPoint Member Sat, 18 Feb 2017 19:45:44 -0500 2017-02-18T19:45:44-05:00 Response by SSG Private RallyPoint Member made Feb 18 at 2017 7:48 PM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/does-tuition-assistance-cover-comptia-certifications-and-if-so-which-ones?n=2353538&urlhash=2353538

Thank you all for your responses SSG Private RallyPoint Member Sat, 18 Feb 2017 19:48:20 -0500 2017-02-18T19:48:20-05:00 Response by SSG Private RallyPoint Member made Feb 19 at 2017 2:05 AM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/does-tuition-assistance-cover-comptia-certifications-and-if-so-which-ones?n=2354269&urlhash=2354269

You can use TA to pay for a technical certification but I don't recommend it. Do your skillports to include the test prep and you can have the army pay for the voucher once you go on to acts I believe and pass its test. Use your TA for college. If you have any questions let me know I can get more information for you tomorrow. For your baseline IT certifications (e.g. A+, Network+, Security+), the courseware focuses primarily on you using something called "Testout.com" and their host of videos and online labs to train up to pass the certification. However, neither the college nor TA covers the cost of actually going to sit for the certification test, which is administered through PearsonVUE.

UMUC allows you to also use the IT certificate to take the place of a comparable class within their curriculum. So, I used my A+ for one class and my CEH for another.

I have heard of some units (those with cyber focus) which allow for unit funds to be used through the appropriate paperwork (I think a local TDY/1610 or something to that effect.) My experience in A Co. 310th MI Battalion is that I never got one of these "for free."

Just my experience, things may be different in other units and things may have changed.
