RallyPoint is a community with a great deal of camaraderie and overall respect, but sometimes there may be specific members that you just want to disengage from. Based on your input, we've created the ability to block specific members. When doing so, you will still see their posts, but it will break interaction between you two. When blocking somebody, neither side is able to:

- Tag you in a post
- Connect with or endorse you
- Respond to your questions
- Comment on your responses
- Vote on any of your questions, responses, or comments

To block somebody on desktop, you can hover over their name and then click on the block logo, or go to their profile and click on the 3 dots right above their contact totals. On mobile, you will see the block icon below their specialty in the top of their profile. When clicking on the icons, you see another screen with information on what is about to happen and asking you to confirm. Please see the link below for more details on this feature:

I can't wait to block someone. I wonder who I am going to block first? This is a great move. Sometimes we don't like being mass tagged or want to deal with a deviate on here. Now we can avoid them.

This is a great idea, LTC Yinon Weiss! I'm very glad to see RallyPoint implement this feature. I think it will stop some of the schoolyard bickering that goes on. For one thing, this will stop the down-voting wars that flare up from time to time. RallyPoint just gets better and better!

A great feature if sadly necessary. It'll end some of the silly stalker fights I've seen nicely. I just hope it doesn't become a tool to create echo chambers.

No LTC Yinon Weiss, but I guess it makes sense. I would also recommend you create a button to Respond to the Original Post and Respond to the comment on the post. Sometimes, folks start commenting on a response to a post, and the original post or thread is lost.

LTC Yinon Weiss, it's a great idea. With some of the immature responses tha have been directed at me and other members, I love it. To be able to shut someone down trying to start a flame war, is awesome. Go RP.

And so it begins. I'm already blocked by someone I don't think I've ever actually interacted with. The funniest bit was I was trying to up vote him.

Of course, this feature isn't as helpful if all it does is prevent us from voting on posts or tagging that person. That limits their ability to force your attention, but not their ability to continue to harass you or otherwise be a tedious boor.

That's the nuclear option. Trying to make it more conventional would take up too much code. Suggest a survey in about 6 months of membership to see how it's working.

I don't know. Some will just block everyone who doesn't agree with them and the their threads can be a bunch of happy people all agreeing with each other. More like Facebook everyday.

When somebody blocks me will I receive some kind of notification LTC Yinon Weiss? Or will I only discover that I have been blocked by attempting to interact with that member?
If we decided based on future evidence that we no longer want to block somebody can we hover over their name and un-block them?

LTC Yinon Weiss, I have never down-voted a RallyPoint member; but, I have notified individuals that their comments were offensive and reported them to administrators by tagging them in a response to an offensive posting and leaving the decision in the hands of the administrator.
I think the Biblical standard for dealing with offense makes sense here: If a RallyPoint member offends me or if I offend somebody one on one communication makes sense [since we may not be contacts then the only way to contact them could be a response to the offending post]. If that does not resolve the issue then mediation makes sense - in this case the mediators would be the administrators or possibly somebody we both are contacts with]. The blocking I think seems appropriate would be limited to communications, responses, comments between the offending and offended parties. There should be an option for the blocking to be reviewed. In hopefully rare cases where somebody would be so consumed with attacking another member after being blocked that additional restrictions would be placed by administrators with at least three administrators required for a more complete blocking of the offending party. [NOTE This is a modified version of a posting that was merged into this question]

LTC Yinon Weiss It works very well however maybe there should be an option other than the 10 day limit to reinstate someone. Say one of us who has a very curious mind :-) about how effectively this works used it for test purposes and in testing it found it is very effective but wanted to undo it before the 10 day wait period is up. On the other hand if two people are having a heated disagreement, stalking or some other offensive activity were occurring I can see how having a 10 day waiting period would be a great idea as it gives everyone a chance to cool off.

Fact is, if a blocking method was not available on RP, I would not have survived. Anyone who thinks RP is replete with saints and angels is out to lunch. There are seriously nasty and incredibly ignorant people in our military, and there's a battalion or two of them on here. Blocking them is absolutely necessary. However, RP needs to drastically improve this method. To wit, when I block someone, I should never see them again in any way. They cannot comment, message, vote, tag me if they are blocked. Trouble is I still see them and they can still comment on my posts by responding under someone else's comment. This is wrong and a huge loophole in the purpose of blocking. Are you listening, RP? I won't hold my breath. A block means the blocked disappears 100%. Capice? 100%.

LTC Yinon Weiss Thank you for article. At first, I blocked someone who was harassing me as a Christian, but blocking has been very helpful in these tumultuous political days to avoid those who repeatedly troll you, insult, or engage in overly heated discussions to your posts. It’s much better to get some enjoyment on this site or why be on it?
