I wish I knew more lots of discussion on Navy Times page with some of his Shipmates chimming in. I think he was a Lay Minister is some Christian Faith or and off duty Preacher and most that knew him seemed to think the world of him. There is some Scuttlebutt about the base out in Nevada near Las Vegas to the line of what goes on there doesn't necessarily stay there. Unfortunately there's no info given to form an opinion on. Its hard to see one "Oh, Sh!t" wipe out a career if that's the case, but even on the civilian side things like this happen constantly. Zero tolerance for error, regardless of how small, seems to be the norm. After he lost his career, he lashed out at some of the only friends he was likely to have left - the people in the chief's mess. People who are reckless in their personal lives like his behavior demonstrates are on a downward spiral of self destruction.
