Given what we know about WWII and the movie Tora Tora Tora, how accurate was this movie?

I actually saw that today and first was fascinated by the old hangars and aircraft and also the drama. My question is there a lot of Hollywood fictionalization or was it pretty accurate.

I just go done reading a book 'Conduct Under Fire' and it contradicted the intentions of some of the Japanese Admiralty.

Larry, I love this movie, I can't believe there have been no responses to this thread from any of us older generation veterans/retirees. I have so many friends that are WWII movie buffs, I love them all.

I think most of it for the time frame was pretty accurate, based on what they had available to utilize for the times.

IMHO, this movie is a classic. I think for the time when it was made, it is pretty accurate. Much better than others like Midway (one of the WORST WW II films ever!) and even better than Pearl Harbor. I understand the stars have to be shown throughout the movie, but for a modern movie, to have current Navy ships with the hull numbers blanked out is unforgiveable. Also, for this group of people to be involved in every facet of the Pearl Harbor attack is ridiculous! I can maybe see getting their P-40s into the air, but then to not keep patrolling the skies and be at Pearl Harbor helping try to rescue sailors, giving blood, AND being part of the Doolittle Raid on Tokyo.....WOW!
