Lots of things to do, but you have to hunt them out.
Also, it's a great place to go other places, Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, etc etc PO1 Private RallyPoint Member Tue, 03 Jun 2014 22:04:35 -0400 2014-06-03T22:04:35-04:00 Response by SSG Private RallyPoint Member made Jun 4 at 2014 12:34 AM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/guam-who-has-been-stationed-there-would-you-recommend-it?n=143232&urlhash=143232

I definitely say go for it. I would inquire though how long the tour would be. Never been stationed there but have participated in two separate month long exercises there. It's a beautiful place but it is small. Definitely would be a neat place to scuba dive as well as a stepping stone to other parts of the Pacific. I have been trying to find out who is the supply sergeant for 3RD BATTALION, 196TH INFANTRY BRIGADE. This has become a very difficult task. The weather is almost always great, and the island life will get ya every time. I recommend Spear Fishing and jet skiing. The island offers a lot, you just have to get out and find it. Think about: plenty of time to work out, take classes, community services, all bullets that you can get for your eval are there. I love small commands. Great weather year round, one of the world's best places for scuba/snorkeling, great golf, loads of culture.

DIS-ADV: "Island fever." This never happened to me. Being on a small island didn't bother me. Schools are not great, or at least weren't when I was there. Lots of typhoons. Long flight to go anywhere else. By all means, if you have the opportunity then take it. You will get rock fever so just plan on taking leave at your midway point and either go back to the states or go to Japan or Korea. I would go back to Guam in a heart beat, loved it. Small deer and wild boar can be taken with bow (right on base at Anderson anyways back in 1990-1992). Great nightlife, excellent off-roading (ATV, SXS, 4x4), however I’ve seen “hotel row” develop over lots of my old secret spots!
