I&#39;m just trying to get more information from people who have actually gone to West Point with their unit. Has anybody gone to West Point to train the cadets attending the school? 2018-02-16T20:17:10-05:00 SSG Private RallyPoint Member 3362297 <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>How long did you go and how was the overall tempo? We went IP as my unit was on Long Island and in Brrokoyn in deuce and a halfs, going on the orienteering range, on the obstacle course, rappelling down their cliff for that purpose. I was also in formation with cadets, and ate with them in the storied dining hall with the famous vaultedmroof where Gen. MacArthur gave his farewell speech recreated by Gregory Peck in the biopic about him. I stayed with them in their dorms, and only learned much later that a PMS, PMpNS, or PAS, can nominate for the academy of their service, a little known secret, if you will. I saw a cadet hop, where coeds from Wellesley, Vassar, and other female colleges of the time were brought in by bus to meet the cadets, though I never went that did actually happen, I did see it. I nearlymwent SUNY Maritime College, mand frequently kick myself I didn&#39;t, my next younger brother was USMA Kings Point, I commissioned him while I was, which was a real treat, one midshipman did a cartwheel on stage in front of the secretary of transportation, then they all took off their dress white jackets and jumped in the pool, a school tradition there, my brother also was in the band at least twice for the Taphanksgiving Macy&#39;s Day parage as well. My best friend while I was innISAF instead of Army was VMI, he told me a good deal about there, also, if you&#39;d want kemto try to elagoratez, please just ask, I hope that was at least of interest and/or useful, many thanks.... Not sure if it is the same at USMA these days. I can tell you that we really appreciated the training. The Marines told us that the posting was actually a benefit to their careers, as well. Best of luck! I think they enjoyed the assignment pretty well -- I got the impression they would have rated it a 6 or 7 out of 10, with 10 being an amazing assignment. You are about 90 mins from NYC, and on some weekends you could take the train down there (beautiful view along the Hudson River) and party it up. West Point itself is in a really quaint area beyond that -- lots of nature, quiet small towns with some basic stuff like a few bars and theaters. If you enjoy Army history at all, it&#39;s a cool place to visit and walk through the museums and tours and take it all in.
